Image : http://www.flickr.com

You’ll also have to start your project a day before you actually install the roll roofing, by unrolling it and letting it lie flat for twenty-four hours. If you neglect this pert of the process, you’ll end up with roofing which keeps trying to pull back into its rolled shape after you have nailed it down.

Choosing Your Roll Roofing

There are several kinds of material, and you’ll have to understand the differences among them before you can begin your job. A type of roofing often seen in rural locations is mineral surfaced , which covers many country sheds, animal shelters, and barns, and is recognizable for the crushed rock granules on its surface.

A less familiar type of roll roof is specialty eaves flashing, used to prevent ice from accumulation on the eaves of buildings in places where winters are severe smooth surface is similar to mineral surface, except that a coat of ground talc covers it instead of crushed rock. Smooth surfaced sheets are used to provide an extra layer of sealant on a roof’s eaves.

Finally, saturated felt roll roofing is used as a protective layer between the outer roofing material and the roof’s deck.

Hot Versus Cold Roll Roofing Installation

While using hot asphalt to install roll roof is more difficult than the alternative cold installation, it is said to work much better. But using hot asphalt will require more than one person on the job, because there is a real risk of injury from handling the asphalt. Most homeowners opt for the simpler and safer cold installation method, which involves attaching the roof with an easy-to-spread adhesive available for almost all home improvement stores.

Using the cold installation method requires only a large squeegee to smooth out the adhesive so that the sections of roll roof can be spread over it.

Where To Buy Roll Roofing

You will have not trouble at all purchasing exactly as much roll Roofing as you need at your nearest hardware or home improvement store. If you don’t have a way to get a large amount of roll roof from your nearest retailer to your home, you can also order roof online from one o f the big home improvement chains like Home Depot or Lowe’s. They offer very reasonable delivery and will ship your roll roofing directly to your doorstep.

The bottom line is that you should never try roll roof installation unless you are confident that you know what you should be doing. The job will both go much more quickly and be safer f you have help from someone with roof installation experience.

It seems that every major – and minor – corporation adopts blue or red for their brand identity color scheme. These colors may be “safe” for the Bank of Americas and Wachovias of the world but are not necessarily the best choices for your brand.

Colors convey meaning in every society, including our own. Understanding the meaning of colors can help you communicate the right brand message.

For instance, my company’s color palette includes orange, gray and white. These colors make sense in the overall branding scheme of things. Consider the our positioning statement: “For businesses which want their critical communications projects on target and on time, My Creative Team is the resource that consistently delivers top quality, strategically focused marketing communications work that makes you look good and that is a good value.”

Orange is considered an energetic color, connoting excitement, enthusiasm, playfulness and value. It is no secret why Home Depot and Howard Johnson’s selected orange. We wanted to express playfulness and good value, so orange was our choice, as well.

My Creative Team was a combination of two companies into a new enterprise. Additionally, we wanted to impart an understanding of our ability to deliver strategically focused marketing communications work. We selected gray which indicates stability, wisdom, and balance.

Finally, it was important that our ability to deliver on time and on target was clear. White means precision.

So, you see, you can communicate a lot about your brand without saying a word.

The large quantity of mail delivered every day by the US postal service is about 500 million pieces.

This is a huge amount of mail. The cause could be the low price of postage fees and the fact that people are accustomed to shuffling paper and envelopes all around the country.

This is why each year billions of letters are stuffed into billions of envelopes that get mechanically hauled in postal service trucks to special sorting centers, from there off to the mail airplanes, and then into the postal trucks and finally to the local postal carriers.

The above chain of event, is suspected of being too old and totally inefficient there by creating the current cost of postage stamps.

On one hand, industry professionals ask for immediate measures to bring more efficiency in this domain which would drastically effect the cost of postage stamps.

They say there are many ways to eliminate the strain on the existing postage cost of postage stamps system, such as increasing both qualification and number of the postal workers or improving transportation technology.

The bottom line is to offer better postage services by improving the quality of the existent postage system which will result in better cost of postage stamps.

On the other hand, the costs of this system are considered too high by communication experts.

They pretend that other existing systems – like email, for instance, would have greater results with smaller costs.

This is why they claim that raising the price of postage stamps will increase the cost of postage stamps, and drive customers away, causing them to get online and use the excellent web communication tools.

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Bathrooms can be very noisy places due to exposed pipes, family members taking showers, blow-drying their hair and so on and so forth. Just because the walls in your home have insulation, including the ceiling does not mean that there is insulation in the interior walls to reduce the noisy sounds. In most cases, interior walls have no insulation at all.

There are many different ways you can soundproof your bathrooms including adding insulation or by doing a few simple maintenance things that are very simple. Insulating the interior walls is the best answer. If you would like to do to it yourself, there is a simple method even though you will need another person to help. You can choose to go through the bathroom wall or the other wall. In most cases, as long as the pipes are not in the wall that needs the insulation you can go through the bathroom wall. It also depends on how many walls you need to soundproof. In some cases, the guest bathroom may be beside not only the dining room, but also a bedroom to one side or the other. You may wish to insulate more than one wall to give the person in the bathroom a bit more privacy. No matter, what the case you will should be able to add insulation through the bathroom wall.

The best insulation to use is called cellulose insulation. Cellulose insulation is nothing more than shredded newspaper treated with fire retardants. This insulation can and will fill and pack the stud cavities. What you will need is a stud finder, bags of cellulose insulation, a drill, and an insulation machine. You can find all of these products at a home repair center or a retail store such as Home Depot. You may even be able to rent the insulation machine.

Now, find the studs. Next, drill a hole in between the studs on the wall you wish to insulate. Measure the nozzle on the insulation machine in order to know what size to make the hole. Drill a hole about 4 to 6 inches down from the ceiling. The insulation machine needs to be outdoors with the hose running in through the window or a door. One person will need to be outside with the insulation machine to operate the machine and fill the hopper with insulation and the other person holding the nozzle in the wall to fill the cavity with insulation. When the insulation is at the top of the hole, you will be done. Be careful not to overfill. Once you see the insulation coming out of the hole, stop the machine. You can now repair the hole and paint the wall.

If you are searching for easier ways in which to soundproof your bathroom, you will be glad to know there are a few ways that are very simple and are not that expensive.

Applying rough materials to the walls and ceilings can be a great way in which to soundproof your bathroom. Adding such things as paint with resins, wall coverings such as rough wallpaper, carpeting to floors, and even speckled paint on the ceilings can aid in soundproofing. Smooth surfaces allow noise to bounce around the room whereas rough surfaces to do not. If you do not wish to carpet the bathroom, you can use mats or rugs. These items will also reduce sound, but will not soundproof as well as insulating the interior walls. Another option is the use of a sound conditioners. A sound conditioner or white noise machine will help mask all types of bathroom sounds. The sound machine should be placed outside of the bathroom door for maximum effectiveness. White noise machines produce sounds similar to those of a box fan or air conditioning unit and will help mask most sounds coming from inside the bathroom.

Let’s be honest, money can be slippery. It can slide out of your hands before you can even say, “goodbye.” For most of us, spending money isn’t the problem. It’s holding on to it and making it grow that gives us the most grief.

While I was doing the research for my first book, “Cool Stuff” They Should Teach in School, I interviewed financial planners, investment analysts, and wealthy businesspeople. After collecting this information at the ripe old age of 17, I was seriously confused. But after writing, reading, and re-writing about the topic, I began to notice a pattern of basic money management rules emerge.

I learned that managing money correctly doesn’t have to be an overwhelming process. Those people who are financially free tend to live by five very simple principles.

Rule #1: Take responsibility

One of the biggest myths I see today is that we all deserve a great life full of nice things, plenty of money, and tons of happiness. The truth is, there is only one person in charge of the quality of your life … you!

The first step to becoming financially independent is to take responsibility for your own money. When, where, and how do you spend your money? Those questions may seem obvious, but most people hesitate to answer them. Be aware of your spending habits. All of these rules are related, but you have to realize that your actions determine whether you’re digging for spare change in the couch or flying first class to Fiji on your vacation.

Rule #2: Pay yourself first

It may seem selfish, but if you don’t pay yourself first, you’ll never be financially set. This means take the first ten percent (or more-it’s your future) of what you earn and invest it right away. Remember, money never seen cannot be missed.

My parents introduced this rule to me at a very young age-even though I was only getting paid one dollar an hour. Today, I thank them for it because I now have money saved up for emergencies and have laid a strong foundation for my future.

Rule #3: Give before you get

You don’t get a tree unless you plant a seed. And investing requires the same process. You’ll never become rich unless you plant your money into a worthwhile investment. The more time that passes, the more your money will grow. (That’s right, just like a tree)

Your dreams will come true as a result your own responsibility, sacrifices, and patience. For two summers, I sacrificed tons of time I could have been hanging out with friends and going to the beach in order to finish my book. But giving my time and effort has contributed to getting the life I want. In other words, we might have to give up some things now, to make things easier (or better) later on.

Perhaps Zig Ziglar said it best: “Do the thing things you need to do when you need to do them and the day will come when you will be able to do the things you want to do when you want to do them.”

Rule #4: Opportunity cost

Whether you’re buying a coffee, an expensive outfit, or a car, each choice you make has an opportunity cost. In short, this means that when you make one choice, you’re giving up another alternative. Any decision that leaves you with two or more choices is an example of opportunity cost. Essentially, we are all faced with the same situation … We must choose between “the pleasures of the now” or delayed gratification. Each dollar we spend shapes our financial condition. How are your money management decisions contributing to your future?

Rule #5: Get your money to work for you

There are two categories we spend money on.

i)	Assets

ii)	Liabilities.

To simplify things, I like to call these Money Eaters and Money Makers.

The name gives it away; you don’t want to spend the majority of your money on liabilities or Money Eaters (ME) because these things will devour your dinero. Look at these purchases as junk food to your bank account. It’s money that you spend on yourself for immediate pleasure, hence the first letter of each word: “ME.” Money Eaters are things you buy that decrease in value once purchased, (music CD’s, clothes, stereo equipment, etc.)

On the other side, you want more of the M&M’s … or the Money Makers. Like the name suggests, these are purchases that allow your money to grow or investments that increase in value. This is what some people refer to as, “making your money work for you.” Yes, it’s definitely a good thing.

Think before you spend. If you spend too much money on “ME” you’ll never have the freedom you really want. Search for M&M’s and invest in things that will make you more money … not eat it. Don’t just work for money, have your money work for you.

- Kent Healy

Q. How can I improve the lighting in my kitchen? I’m always preparing meals in the dark!

A. There is a general idea that a big central ceiling fixture will provide all the light needed for cooking, meals and cleaning up. A central overhead light provides good overall lighting, but is a weak light for tasking. Everyone working under that kind of light will be working in their shadow. Undercabinet lighting is a good solution for food preparation because it efficiently illuminates the counter work surface. There are many plug-in varieties of xenon and halogen units that work well for this kind of task illumination.

For island counters, where food is prepared or served, pendants hung to illuminate the entire work surface are also a good solution. Pendants are hanging lights, either on downrods (stems), cords or chain, they can be positioned singly or in groups, just above the task area and light up the surface to make the tasks at hand well lit and enjoyable. Some pendants come in brightly colored glass shades for a contemporary look, or more traditional with faux alabaster glass shades and wrought iron, pewter or bronze finishes.

Q. We have a family room that has two table lamps in the corners of the room and a central overhead fixture. This lighting is not enough for my kids doing homework at the table, or me, reading or knitting on the sofa. What can you suggest?

A. Check to see if you are using the correct wattage in your lamps and replace your lampshades if they are darkened and clouded with age ( over the years this can happen slowly, the shade emitting less light because of deterioration). Again, an overhead fixture is limited in the light it can provide for tasking.

A good alternative is track lights which will provide good downlight to specific areas in the room. Track heads with little spot or flood bulbs can beam lighting down on tasking areas. Floor lamps that have multiple “goosenecks” or adjustable lights that can be directed towards many working areas can adequately illumintate reading and other activities in a multiple areas. Wall sconces placed in work areas provide a pleasant, semi-direct light and enhance ambient lighting.

Q. I’d like to have better light around my house when I come home at night.

A. Low voltage light kits provide good light along driveways and walkways. They come with various lamps and styles with transformers to match. It’s easy to install low voltage lighting–these kits usually consist of a several lights which are on spikes that can be set in the ground and linked with wire which can be placed above ground, buried several inches down in soil, covered with mulch or behind shrubbery. Low voltage (12 volts of current) is safe for children and pets-the voltage is so low it does not present a shock hazard).

The transformer, which converts the standard 120 household volts to 12 volts, is plugged into a regular house exterior or interior outlet. Higher voltage (120 volts) provides the most powerful light for your driveway, walkway and landscape lighting. There is no transformer, wires to the light sources which can be spiked or installed around walkways, driveways, etc. have to be buried at a safe depth because of safety regulations–these will be in the directions for installation.

They are excellent for illuminating a driveway or walkway, showcasing trees, the house or the landscape. Placed strategically, the effects with this 120 voltage landscape lighting are dramatic and provide all the illumination you may require.

Q. My electric bill is too high! What can I do about it!

A. Replacing all of your present incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs will definitely lower your electric bill. CFL’s (compact fluorescent lights) come in many wattages and styles. The CFL technology will expand over the next year to include dim-able bulbs and smaller bulbs in three-ways for lamps. Also, consider dimmers for any room in your house. When a light is dimmed, the wattage is decreased (you save money!) and dimmers present the option of just the right light at the simple slide or dial on the wall switch.

Q. My husband and I have a bathroom with double sinks. I like a lot of light for putting on make up in the morning. My husband likes to shave in the practically in the dark.! He says bright light is only acceptable after a cup of coffee. Right now we have a standard vanity fixture with six bulbs that are too dim for me an too bright for him. What can we do?

A. A dimmer will solve the light adjust ability problem, but only if you use the bathroom at different times. If you use the double sinks at the same time, you should consider separate lighting above each sink –that would require installing separate receptacles and wiring, and then, separate dimmers. You could then have the correct wattage for your applying make-up and your husband could have his preferred lighting for shaving.

Are you sick of the usual dinner-and-a-movie dates? Does your wallet scream in protest when you take it out to pay for your share of another over-priced meal? While you may think the only way to have fun is to continue draining your bank account every weekend, with our creative and inexpensive outings, you’ll soon enjoy the idea of being a “cheap date.”

Cheap Date Idea No. 1: Take a Cue from MTV’s Cribs

Go to an upscale neighborhood near you and find an open house (meaning a real estate open house, not just an unlocked door obviously). Walk around and dream about actually living there or act like you already do and give each other the grand tour. For a swanky night in, ask your well-to-do friend with the gorgeous apartment to let you borrow it for the evening. You can make dinner and eat in style … plus get some great decorating tips.

Cheap Date Idea No. 2: Booze it up for (Nearly) Free

See if you can find a winery or brewery in your area. (You’d be surprised how many towns have these now.) Most places offer tours and will let you sample their wares for little or no cost. Pretend to be experts and impress each other with words like “bouquet” (a way to describe the smell of wine) and “carbonic maceration” (the method in which most red wines are made).

Cheap Date Idea No. 3: Get Classy

Sign up for a free class. Stores like Williams and Sonoma offer cooking tutorials that you can see for free and hardware stores like Home Depot often offer classes on home repair and improvement. Not only are they free, but you’ll learn skills that can save you money later on too!

Cheap Date Idea No. 4: Cycle the Day Away

Rent bikes—if you don’t have your own—and explore your town or a nearby city. Bring a cheap picnic: baguette, red wine and chocolate. You’ll feel like you’re touring the French countryside (well, close enough).

Cheap Date Idea No. 5: Save Your Money for the Sugar

Make an inexpensive dinner at home (pasta perhaps?) and go out for a gourmet dessert and coffee date after. You can share a sundae or try that flourless chocolate cake you’re always eyeing at your favorite restaurant.

Cheap Date Idea No. 6: Go Four Star on a Budget

Rendezvous in a posh hotel—just don’t actually blow your savings staying there. Dress up so you look the part and spend the evening exploring the grounds, ordering drinks at the bar and enjoying the free bar food.

Cheap Date Idea No. 7: Do Something Good (for a Change)

Volunteering might not sound very romantic, but think about it: You get to see his sensitive side and he gets to see your good-girl side (you can save the bad-girl side for after). Whether you spend some time in a soup kitchen, cleaning up your local beach or park or babysitting (for free) for your stressed-out friend, you’ll have spent quality time with your man that will definitely make you feel good about yourself too.

Cheap Date Idea No. 8: Travel to a Galaxy Far, Far Away

Or at least imagine you are while star gazing. Borrow an astronomy book from the library, lay out a blanket on a warm night and see how many constellations you can find.

Cheap Date Idea No. 9: Start the Day Right

Surprise him with a themed breakfast in bed—with a French twist. Bring up a tray with coffee, crepes, croissants and mimosas—wearing that cute French maid costume from Halloween last year.

Cheap Date Idea No. 10: Head for the (Tide) Pool

If you’re lucky enough to have a beach near you, check its website for information on tide pool schedules. Spend a few hours looking for fun fish, hermit crabs and sea cucumbers. Bring a tide pool watch card so you will know what you’re looking for, or study up ahead of time and impress him with your knowledge of invertebrates. And afterward you can spend the rest of the day at the beach!

Image : http://www.flickr.com

In previous articles, I have discussed travel, cashback, interest-savings, and merchandise rewards programs. These rewards specific cards are geared towards people who are grounded in which type of rewards they would like to earn.

For those who are indecisive or those having different rewards interests at different times of the year, should take an interest in the Chase choosemyrewards program. There are two different flagship cards involved in this program, the Chase Cash Plus Rewards Visa and the Chase Flexible Rewards Visa. Both cards offer 0% APR’s for 1 year, and low APR’s thereafter. Statistics show however, that the approval rate for the Chase Cash Plus Rewards Visa is higher.

Let’s take a minute to explain the choosemyrewards program. Like any other rewards program, there is a point system for both cards. You receive one point for every dollar spent on purchases with each card. When these points are accumulated, you then have the option of redeeming them for a variety of goods or cash. Here is what distinguishes these two cards from all other programs. At any time, you may login to the choosemyrewards page on the Chase server to elect which type of rewards you would like to receive. Choices include merchandise, restaurant gift certificates, retail gift certificates, travel rewards, and with the Chase Cash Plus Rewards Visa up to 5% cashback on purchases.

Many other rewards programs make it very difficult for the consumer to redeem rewards, let alone choose them. Typically, you would have to call up the company, wait on hold to get in touch with the proper customer service representitive, and then listen to them give you your list of options before ultimately processing your decision. With the choosemyrewards program this is not the case. In the mail with your new Chase card, you will receive a login pin number and the web address where you may access your rewards account. After entering your pin number, you may view your points accrued and a list of all rewards options. You may then scroll through the list of options and choose the rewards you would like to receive.

It only gets better. Let’s say you logout of your account after you choose your rewards and realize that maybe you didn’t really want that gift certificate to Home Depot that you signed up for. Instead you’d like a gift certificate to your favorite restaurant. All you have to do is simply log back in and switch your reward redemption. This is a very simple and painless process and gives you, the consumer much more control.

Many people save their points until the end of the year, because they never expire, and redeem their points to give gift certificates as holiday presents. Others take a trip to a warm place during the winter. Others just simply trump in on a cashback award in the form of a check. Whatever your interest are, or if they change, enrolling in the choosemyrewards program will make your rewards management more user-friendly and thus, much easier.

Image : http://www.flickr.com

There are several features that you can only find in DuPont laminate flooring and nowhere else. Its newest innovation is the Multi-Direction Design that is available in its Tuscan Stone product. Upon inspection, you will see that the stone pattern continues across seams, appearing as though your floor is entirely made of stone instead of laminate planks. Its wood laminate planks also has the InterPlank Design which looks continuous and unbroken across seams, reducing the time it takes for you to install the flooring and prevents repeated patterns. Another unique feature for DuPont laminate is the attachment of underlayment under its products, which when combined with a premium underlayer, provides better acoustic and thermal insulation, as well as better stability to your flooring.

DuPont Designs

With its special technology, DuPont laminate flooring has textures and appearances closely resembling hardwood or ceramic, providing a viable option for you if you wish for these looks though does not have the budget or the inclination to install one. The laminate products of DuPont are available in two collections, the Real Touch Classic and the Real Touch Elite that provides numerous choices for your flooring. If you want wood laminate flooring with realistic looking wood grain, try selecting products included in the Real Touch Classic collection. There are two subcategories in the Real Touch Elite collection, the In-Stock and the Custom Order designs. The former is available in most Home Depot stores while the latter is available only to cater to your more discriminating style and taste.

Points to Remember When Installing

Keep in mind that DuPont laminate flooring can be installed on several types of subfloors, be it wooden or concrete, as long as it is clean, dry and level. As in most laminate flooring, you must store unopened packages indoors two days or more prior to installation. Though there is no hard and fast rule regarding the orientation of laminate flooring, try installing them parallel to the light coming in from the outside, so as to maximize their appearance. Never forget to leave expansion spaces between walls and its adjacent rows of laminate flooring. You would also get better and more beautiful results if you use moldings and accessories also from DuPont. As the floating technique for installation is recommended, it is both easy for you to install and disengage laminate planks or tiles whenever you wish to replace damaged ones.

Installing in Bathroom

Gone were the days when you can only install laminate flooring in select areas of the house. Nowadays, it is even possible to install DuPont laminate flooring in high humidity areas such as bathrooms. The manufacturer recommends using silicone sealant when installing laminate flooring in bathroom, even on the expansion gaps between planks and walls.
